“Honestly!” Felix exclaimed. “You always do this, Tommy! Always. And, once again, here I am having to clean up one of your messes.”

“I didn’t do it,” Junior said, his head still lowered. “Surely you believe that, Felix? I’m no killer. I would never hurt Chante. I’ve known her for years. Since we were practically children. Met her back during boarding school days.”

“I know when you met her, Junior. Back when she was still with Conner, right?” Felix questioned.

“Yeah, they dated for a spell,” Junior said. “Why, you thinking Conner might have done this? Conner wouldn’t have… I don’t think.”

“If not him, then Martin?” Hope asked.

“No! Martin loves Chante,” Junior insisted, glancing up for a split second to look at Hope before returning his gaze to the ground below. “I just don’t understand. We all came running in. I wasn’t looking around. I just saw her, honestly. I saw Chante lying there on the deck. I panicked. I didn’t know what to do. I looked up and saw Martin and Conner. They seemed to have gotten there the same time I did, but honestly I’m not really sure. First thing I saw was Chante.”

“Could either of them have gotten there before you, do you think?” Felix asked.

“I don’t know, Felix,” Junior said. “I don’t really know who got there first. All I remember is hearing the gunshot and walking towards it like an idiot because I knew Chante was out on the deck. I was worried. I swear, that’s all it was, and then there she was. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure it was a gunshot at first. I mean, who brings a gun on a cruise ship? Why would anyone have gun? If anything, I thought something backfired or maybe a rescue boat fell loose. Something. I don’t even really know what I was thinking, only that I knew Chante had been out there on the deck too.”

“Tell me the truth right now, Junior, is there anything at all that could come out. Anything that might make you a suspect in this case?” Felix asked.

“No! Nothing,” Junior swore, glancing up at Felix uncomfortably for a moment, his eyes darting to the left to avoid looking at him directly.

“You’re lying to me already,” Felix insisted. “I can’t help you if you’re not totally honest with me, Junior.”

“I am being honest with you.”

“No, you’re not,” Felix said. “You were cheating on Laura with Chante, weren’t you?”

The tension in the air thickened. Hope didn’t need any words of confirmation from Junior. The pained look on his face and the long silence that followed Felix’s question was confirmation enough. “What… what are you talking about?” Junior asked, taking a step back.

“Now is not the time to be coy, Junior,” Felix hissed. “Tell me the truth right now.”

Junior paused once again. He began wringing his wrists anxiously before at last crossing his arms, staring down at his feet for a moment, and then looking back up at them. “How did you know?”

Hope rolled her eyes. Felix shook his head.
